Product Description Last year Americans spent $400 million on 1.8 million tons of cat litter--enough to fill the Empire State Building two and a half times! Now, Paul Kunkel presents a foolproof, 21-Day Program for teaching any litter-trained cat between the ages of six months and ten years to use a toilet instead of a litterbox. Illustrations.

It does work! April 22, 2000 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
We bought this book about 8 years ago, and used it to successfully train our two 6-8 month old cats (age uncertain, from a pound). We learned the hard way (i.e. we thought we could just do the parts of the book we wanted to) that the book's advice IS valid. The cats MUST be fixed first, and you have to let the cats learn at their speed. Plus, we were not successful until we had weaned them of perfumed litter first. With persistence, they learned well, and were able to learn that other toilets at other's homes, in hotels, on moves, etc. are all the same thing. We haven't had to buy litter since, and love the lack of cat litter smell in the house.
It Really Works! September 21, 1999 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I followed the book and my cat was trained (it took more than 21 days) -- it is a wonderful method! But praise is important, even to cats -- when I went in the hospital for a couple weeks and she was left alone alot, she backslid and has never accepted the idea again. Now we use the electric cat box -- another great idea!
It worked but patience is required August 11, 2003 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I was skeptical about trying to toilet train my then-four-year-old cat. But with plenty of patience and persistence (and a few unpleasant setbacks), it did work. It took about four months, a dedicated bathroom, and the alternate method described in the book, but it was so worth it. We have not had a litter box in our home since then, and that was four years ago. When my cat had surgery recently and could not jump, I gave her a temporary litter box, which she took to immediately. However, once she recovered, and I removed the litter box and pointed the way to the toilet, she returned to her toilet-trained habits. I know she would prefer a litter box but she knows the toilet is what she is supposed to use and she does that consistently. It took a bit longer (a few years) for her to realize that all toilets are for the same purpose, but now that she has figured that out, she is ready for a road trip!
I was amazed! April 13, 1998 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was skeptical whether this book would work, but thought we would give it a try. Now, it's 21 days later, and NO MORE LITTER BOX! Great book!
Good idea March 5, 2009 Catwoman69 This is great for apts. or to eliminate the litter box. You just really need 2 bathrooms to do it properly.
